see how seasons change without changing

by Maribel C. Pagan

dear grandma

look at how time has passed

from bed

                    to grave

from cold white floors

                    to a bed of flowers

see how seasons change

without changing

a lighted flame

                    whispered away

i wish to wrap fingers

                    around your thin bony ones

one last time

                    a prayer

but life isn’t kind

                    and here i am still

                                your loving

                                granddaughter
